Sound of Thin Silence

As we transition from Green to Bright Blue,
from 4 to 5, from
Anahata Chakra to Vishudha Chakra,
from Touch to Sound,
Air to Ether,
Let’s look into one more story, or actually two biblical stories that happened in one place: The cave in the Rock
Moses in the Cave
After 40 days on Mt. Sinai, Moses has returned with the two tablets of stone on which the Ten Commandments were engraved, to find that the people of Israel still held the slave consciousness, and couldn’t hold the idea of God as an infinite state of being, beyond form ( Eheye Asher Eheye), and worshiped a statue of a Golden Calf that have created while he was away.
He was furious, and so was God.
Moses then retreated by himself for another 40 days, before going up the mountain for 40 more days.
At this time of retreat between the the first and second 40 days on the mountain,
Moses is asking God to see him, asking to meet him, at yet even deeper level.
There, at the cave on the rock, Moses reaches the highest level of nearness to God.
”18 And he said: "Show me, now, Your glory!"
19 He said: "I will let all My goodness pass before you; I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you, and I will favor when I wish to favor, and I will have compassion when I wish to have compassion."
20 And He said, "You will not be able to see My face, for man shall not see Me and live."
21 And the Lord said: "Behold, there is a place with Me, and you shall stand on the rock.
22And it shall be that when My glory passes by, I will place you into the cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with My hand until I have passed by.
23Then I will remove My hand, and you will see My back but My face shall not be seen.”-Exodus 33
At this event Moses is asking God to be merciful towards the people of Israel, despite their misunderstanding and misbehaviour.
There, a balanced polarity in God is revealed, not only Justice, but also Mercy.
This is also known in the Jewish tradition as the 13 virtues ( 1+3 = 4 Forth Chakra- Anahata - Heart Chakra)
5 And the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and He called out in the name of the Lord.
6 And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed: Lord, Lord, benevolent God, Who is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abundant in loving kindness and truth,
7 preserving loving kindness for thousands, forgiving iniquity and rebellion and sin; yet He does not completely clear [of sin] He visits the iniquity of parents on children and children's children, to the third and fourth generations."
8 And Moses hastened, bowed his head to the ground and prostrated himself,-Exodus 34
ו וַיַּֽעֲבֹ֨ר יְהֹוָ֥ה | עַל־פָּנָיו֘ וַיִּקְרָא֒ יְהֹוָ֣ה | יְהֹוָ֔ה אֵ֥ל רַח֖וּם וְחַנּ֑וּן אֶ֥רֶךְ אַפַּ֖יִם וְרַב־חֶ֥סֶד וֶֽאֱמֶֽת:ז נֹצֵ֥ר חֶ֨סֶד֙ לָֽאֲלָפִ֔ים נֹשֵׂ֥א עָוֹ֛ן וָפֶ֖שַׁע וְחַטָּאָ֑ה וְנַקֵּה֙ לֹ֣א יְנַקֶּ֔ה פֹּקֵ֣ד | עֲוֹ֣ן אָב֗וֹת עַל־בָּנִים֙ וְעַל־בְּנֵ֣י בָנִ֔ים עַל־שִׁלֵּשִׁ֖ים וְעַל־רִבֵּעִֽים:

Elijah’s Revelation
Fast forward;
a few books and a few generations later: We meet Elijah
Elijah the prophet is a special one, he has long hair and long beard, he has super natural powers.
he can bring people back from the dead, he can control the elements, especially fire,
But not the fiery emotions within himself.
At times of drought, he calls the prophets of the Ba’al, for a kind of a dual on Mt. Carmel:
Elijah proposes a direct test of the powers of Baal and the Jewish God. The people of Israel, 450 prophets of Baal, and 400 prophets of Asherah are summoned to Mount Carmel. An altar is built for Baal. Wood is laid on the altar. An ox is slaughtered and cut into pieces; the pieces are laid on the wood. Elijah then invites the priests of Baal to pray for fire to light the sacrifice. They pray from morning to noon without success. Elijah ridicules their efforts. "At noon Elijah mocked them, saying, 'Cry aloud! Surely he is a god; either he is meditating, or he has wandered away, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is asleep and must be awakened.'" They respond by cutting themselves and adding their own blood to the sacrifice (such mutilation of the body was strictly forbidden in the Mosaic law). They continue praying until evening without success.
Elijah builds an altar from twelve stones, digs a huge trench around it, lays wood on it, slaughters another ox, cuts it up, and lays it on the wood. He then orders that the sacrifice and altar be drenched with water from "four large jars" poured three times, filling also the trench. He asks God to accept the sacrifice. Fire falls from the sky, consuming the sacrifice, the stones of the altar itself, the earth and the water in the trench as well. Elijah then orders the deaths of the priests of Baal.
He actually orders to slaughter all 450 prophets.
Elijah is angry at the people of Israel, because they have not made a clear choice and a clear commitment. They still worship both the God of Israel, and the other local Gods:
"How long will you go limping with two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him."
-Kings 1 18:21
Even this great miraculous performance on Mt. Carmel, didn’t make them choose and commit.
Desperate, he leaves to the desert, wishing to die.
He falls a sleep, lying at the shade of a desert tree.
An Angel wakes him up, and makes him eat some bread and drink some water.
Still, he falls asleep again.
The angel wakes him up again, and tells him to walk.
Elijah then walks for 40 days and nights,
carried by the energy that he received from the bread and water given to him by the angel,
I can imagine him walking there. Alone, frustrated, desperate. Maybe even talking to himself at times,
like people who face a traumatic event and start walking, lost in their emotions, wandering aimlessly,
as if trying to collect lost parts of themselves…
He walks for 40 days until he arrives at the same mountain, and at the same cave where Moses has had his highest revelation.
And god appears to him, in a beautiful way, revealing a silent, compassionate state:
9 And he came there to the cave, and he lodged there. And behold! The word of the Lord came to him. And He said to him: "What are you doing here, Elijah?"
10 And he said: "I have been zealous for the Lord, the God of Hosts, for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant. They have torn down Your altars and they have killed Your prophets by the sword, and I have remained alone, and they seek my life to take it.
11 And He said: "Go out and stand in the mountain before the Lord, Behold! the Lord passes,
and a great and strong wind splitting mountains and shattering boulders before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake-not in the earthquake was the Lord.
12 After the earthquake fire, not in the fire was the Lord, and after the fire a still small sound.-Kings 1 19
ט וַיָּבֹא־שָׁ֥ם אֶל־הַמְּעָרָ֖ה וַיָּ֣לֶן שָׁ֑ם וְהִנֵּ֚ה דְבַר־יְהֹוָה֙ אֵלָ֔יו וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֔וֹ מַה־לְּךָ֥ פֹ֖ה אֵלִיָּֽהוּ:י וַיֹּאמֶר֩ קַנֹּ֨א קִנֵּ֜אתִי לַיהֹוָ֣ה | אֱלֹהֵ֣י צְבָא֗וֹת כִּֽי־עָזְב֚וּ בְרִֽיתְךָ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶת־מִזְבְּחֹתֶ֣יךָ הָרָ֔סוּ וְאֶת־נְבִיאֶ֖יךָ הָרְג֣וּ בֶחָ֑רֶב וָֽאִוָּתֵ֚ר אֲנִי֙ לְבַדִּ֔י וַיְבַקְשׁ֥וּ אֶת־נַפְשִׁ֖י לְקַחְתָּֽהּ:יא וַיֹּ֗אמֶר צֵ֣א וְעָמַדְתָּ֣ בָהָר֘ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהֹוָה֒ וְהִנֵּ֧ה יְהֹוָ֣ה עֹבֵ֗ר וְר֣וּחַ גְּדוֹלָ֡ה וְחָזָ֞ק מְפָרֵק֩ הָרִ֨ים וּמְשַׁבֵּ֚ר סְלָעִים֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֔ה לֹ֥א בָר֖וּחַ יְהֹוָ֑ה וְאַחַ֚ר הָר֙וּחַ֙ רַ֔עַשׁ לֹ֥א בָרַ֖עַשׁ יְהֹוָֽה:יב וְאַחַ֚ר הָרַ֙עַשׁ֙ אֵ֔שׁ “לֹ֥א בָאֵ֖שׁ יְהֹוָ֑ה וְאַחַ֣ר הָאֵ֔שׁ ק֖וֹל דְּמָמָ֥ה דַקָּֽה:
מלכים א
Yet, Elijah didn’t get the message… He didn’t understand the compassion. In his reaction to this revelation he replied by repeating the same story again:
14 And he said, "I have been zealous for the Lord, the God of Hosts, for the Children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, they have torn down Your altars, and they have killed Your prophets by the sword, and I alone remain, and they seek my soul to take it."
That was the end of his role as a prophet. Elijah was “fired”, for being so fanatic, not being able to have compassion, not able to perceive the essence of the small, thin silence, not able to transform the anger, the ATTACHMENT to his way and his view on how things should be.
